DEAF KIDS
Brazilian power trio who this year released their third album, this time through Neurot, which is run by the Neurosis folks (for whom they’ve been the opening act on their past several tours), which has allowed them to reach new audiences. They mix various aspects of initiatic hardcore punk, several declinations of metal, and a rhythmic tribalization which is a sort of a Sepultura via Motorhead-style psychedelic hard’n’heavy, with a lot of moments which are more on the abstract, with a lot of pages taken out of hairy rock with a ton of delay. With Brazil in a state, yet again, of renewed and complex upheaval, the DEAF KIDS assume they themselves are trying to figure out, through their vocabularies, what it means to have been born and to have grown up in a colonized country. Rock that’s just made for the nights at ADAO.
